=Timmy’s School Time Experience=
Timmy: Hi, Eric.
Eric: Hello Timmy, I have been meaning to talk to you.
Timmy: About what, bud?
Eric: Well you’ve just been so uptight lately. It’s really getting me down. We used to be tight and now I am not sure what has gotten into you!
Timmy: I’m not sure what you mean.
Eric: You’re just not the same as you used to be, less carefree, less fun.
Amanda: Yeah, Tim, you used to rock.
Timmy: You guys are just being weird. I am the same Timmy you have both grown to love.
Eric: Ok. I am having a little “get together” tonight at my house. No parents, it’s going to be a blast. What time should I expect you?
Timmy: umm..
Eric: See!
Amanda: What is your problem??
Timmy: I just don’t want to go.
Eric: This is about God again, isn’t it? I am Christian too, I go to youth group with you.
Timmy: but..
Eric: God loves you and wants you to enjoy yourself, get with the times. Why would God create you if He didn’t?
Timmy: but..
Eric: Think of it this way, if you really wanted to do ALL the things the Bible says, you could maybe do it for a few hours. You are bound to fail at some point. You can’t be Mr. Perfect forever, Tim.
This is why Jesus died, so we don’t have to worry about enjoying ourselves. The party is on.
Timmy: I don’t know.
Amanda: Loosen up. We will see you later, ok?
Timmy: Ok.
Later That Day…
Gwen: Tim, will you sit with me?
Timmy: Ok, Gwen.
Gwen: How are you doing today, Tim? You seem….different.
Timmy: * Thinks, “ not you too!”* I’m, umm, ok. I guess.
Gwen: Awww come on. You can talk to me, Tim. What is on your mind?
Timmy: The other day I thought I had a revelation from God. I thought I was learning to walk in love and His presence. I felt inspired.
Gwen: So, what happened?
Timmy: Well, I got to thinking…
Gwen: Uh-oh! *smirks*
Timmy: I was all on the right track, on top of the world. I was doing what was right. Sure, I can stay like that for awhile, but it’s bound to change. I can’t keep going perfectly. I just feel so much pressure. I can’t be perfect at this for long.
Gwen: First things first, you’re not perfect, no pressure there. That is why Jesus died for you.
Timmy: That is what Eric said.
Gwen: Don’t listen to Eric.
Timmy: But you’re saying the same thing!
Gwen: Actually, no. There is one major difference between what I mean and what Eric is always saying. He is saying Jesus died so that we could be free to sin guiltlessly. He thinks Jesus died so we can serve sin and do things against the will of God with no worry.
I mean that Jesus Christ died so that we can be free from death and be free to live and do the will of God. God’s purpose for us is to live freely in His will. Sin only leads to bondage and death.
Timmy: How can I tell who is speaking the truth and who is not?
Gwen: When Eric is speaking, he is speaking of himself and his opinion. Either an idea he came up with or he heard somewhere. When I tell you these things they can be backed by the inspired word of God, the Bible. Just look it up and trust in God to lead you correctly.
Timmy: You’re right, thanks.
Gwen: Anytime.

It is important not to take everyone’s words for truth, or believe everything that you hear. It is crucial to discern between lies and reality. God has given us a basis to do this, not our feelings or ideas of what seems right, but the Bible. God gives us wisdom on how to continue in His will through the scripture. This is why it is essential to test what you hear based on what you read in the Bible. If it contradicts it is best to throw what you heard out the window.
